Teaming with The Driftmier Architects, AUE provided the structural engineering design services for the construction of a new approximately 23,000 sq ft administration building for Skagit county public utility department. Half of the building is one story, while the other half is two stories. The proposed design incorporated exposed concrete foundation walls up to the ground level, with exterior metal stud walls with metal siding on the one-story portion, and brick veneer on the 2-story portion. The first floor is a typical slab on grade, while the second floor is concrete filled metal deck supported by open web steel joists and w-beams. The roof system is the typical roof metal deck system supported on open web steel joists and w support beams. AUE also designed the elevator pit, elevator rail support, and the interior and exterior stairs. The lateral stability for the structure was provided with special steel moment frames.
