Lake Whatcom Water & Sewer District

Project Name: Lake Whatcom Water & Sewer District
Project Location: Bellingham, WA

Lake Whatcom Water and Sewer district was a site study of existing buildings and land use which resulted in several new building designs on a highly sloping site. The site utilizes several green building techniques in the design. Due to the sloping site, several green, modular retaining walls were utilized instead of conventional concrete retaining walls to accommodate the new buildings and access.
Several new facilities were designed to provide more efficient access and usage for facility employees. This includes a truck wash, pump house, operational building, and an office building. Green building materials utilized steel and engineered lumber. Interior shear walls with drag beams were designed to compensate for the lack of shear transfer along the north walls, allowing for large windows that maximize natural light.
